"Oranges and Lemons". Th. Pallady. 38x46 cm. oil/c/board. Zambaccian Muzeum. OTE: Pallady was a very close friend with both Ticã Constantinescu and Togo Catargi. But he wasn't and could not be my tutor because he died before I even contemplated approaching him. Pallady's inclusion in this site aims only at giving an idea of the Romanian artistic environment that united many painters before 1944, Togo and Constatinescu among them. There was a close companionship betwen French and Romanian painters that went back even to Puvis de Chavanne, whose wife was Pallady's grand father sister. Pallady, Catargi and Constatinescu mingled in Paris with Matisse, Duffy, Fujita, Brauner, Rouault, Marquet, Manguin and the like.
